DS Audio’s state-of-the-art optical phono cartridges remain unique in the world of high-end audio, and continue to earn both rave reviews and top awards from specialist hi-fi media worldwide. Company CEO Tetsuaki Aoyagi recently visited the UK to chat about current developments – and ‘let slip’ an exciting announcement!
You could forgive DS Audio if it were to rest somewhat on its laurels. For the past 10 years, the company has been the world’s only creator of a range of superb quality optical phono cartridges, one that effectively redefines the whole concept of cartridge design and enables a sound quality that has the jaws of vinyl-lovers dropping to the floor.
Fortunately for us, laurel-resting simply isn’t in the nature of CEO and designer Tetsuaki Aoyagi (‘Aki-san’) who, since 2013 has tirelessly continued to push the possibilities – and the realities – of optical cartridge design. His ongoing efforts have advanced the technology to ‘third generation’ level, as showcased in the company’s flagship Grand Master model. At the same time, deliberate investments have been made in ‘trickling-down’ key elements of that technology in order to make optical cartridges more affordable to a wider range of audiophiles, such as with the entry level DS-E1 model.
I recently met with Aki-san to chat about the past, present and future of DS Audio, and am delighted to reveal that in the near future we will see the launch of a new Master 3 model, to be launched at the Munich High-End Show in May!
