What Hi-Fi reviews Kerr Acoustic’s K300 Mk3 standmounts

With the vast range of choice available in the loudspeaker market, should you opt to audition a less-known brand over the established competition? What Hi-Fi says yes, if it’s Kerr Acoustic’s entry-level K300 Mk3 loudspeaker.

While Kerr Acoustic may not yet be a brand that’s on the tip of your tongue, the company is already a well-known name in professional audio circles. Session musician and music producer Jes Kerr found himself collecting, restoring and modifying a vast number of different loudspeaker designs in pursuit of the kind of resolution he wanted to achieve in his recordings, which ultimately led him to create his own designs. Other studio professionals were impressed and so, Kerr Acoustic was founded to focus on creating high-resolution loudspeakers for professional recording studios. More recently, Kerr decided to also offer his designs to home audiophile listeners.

The Kerr Acoustic range of loudspeakers, which currently includes four models, features a combination of drivers that’s rare in both home and professional audio: mid-range and bass units from the excellent Dorset–based Volt and Danish Scan-Speak are married with true ribbon tweeters crafted to reveal every nuance with surgical precision. Another key defining factor of the range is the unique Kerr Acoustic transmission line bass loading, which extends the bass frequency response way down, delivering detailed, powerful and controlled bass as low as 16Hz in the top-of-range K100, and even down to 33Hz in the K300 reviewed here.

Jes Kerr says, “I’m delighted that the K300s have received such high praise from What Hi-Fi, a magazine I’ve been reading and collecting since I was 8 years old! A 5-star accolade from such a well-respected, mainstream publication is more than that 8-year old boy could’ve dreamed of, and I’m very grateful to the What Hi-Fi team for their objective and accessible review.”
