Pro-level performance for small spaces: Kerr Acoustic announces new K400 compact loudspeaker

PRESS RELEASE: Kerr Acoustic’s long-awaited K400 loudspeaker delivers ‘compromise-free’ performance in a truly compact design, ideal for space-restricted audiophiles or professional users looking to expand into multichannel territory.

Already a well-known name in professional audio, Kerr Acoustic has spent recent years bringing its high-resolution loudspeakers into the home. The new K400 is the company’s most compact – and therefore most ‘home-friendly’ – professional monitor to date.

A two-way design for stand-mount use, or – for the first time in a Kerr loudspeaker – wall/ceiling mounting, the K400 draws heavily on the engineering of the acclaimed K300.

“It takes many of the same ingredients and design philosophy that make our K300 so special, and presents them in a more compact format that opens them up to users seeking a more compact loudspeaker. Due to its size, it’s also ideal for Dolby Atmos and other surround installations,” says designer Jes Kerr. To support this, the K400 includes four professional grade M8 mounting points on the rear panel.

Despite its modest dimensions, the K400 delivers massive power handling capabilities, an impressive frequency response, and a majestic sense of scale.

Its cabinet construction mirrors the K300: a 24mm Baltic birch plywood baffle, 18mm BBP sides, top and bottom, and 12mm internal bracing.

Inside, the K400 continues Kerr Acoustic’s distinctive approach to driver selection. Its 150mm Scanspeak mid-bass unit is paired with a 45mm true ribbon tweeter — a combination rarely seen in either home or professional loudspeakers.

“We’ve been using Scanspeak’s 180mm Revelator driver in our K300 and K320 for some time, and found its performance to be incredibly hard to beat. Incorporating the smaller version into the K400 was a natural step,” Kerr explains.

Like all Kerr Acoustic loudspeakers, the K400 employs the company’s proprietary transmission line loading, in which a real breakthrough in frequency response and extension are achieved by way of exceptionally well-controlled and extended bass alongside a clear, uncoloured midrange.

“Professional monitors are designed to remain detailed, realistic and composed as the volume rises. For home listeners, that blend of accuracy, energy and musicality can be equally irresistible,” says Kerr.

Whether for precision monitoring or revealing every nuance in a personal listening setup, the K400 offers a fully extended, highly transparent performance. Developed to deliver the deepest possible bass from such a compact enclosure, it is perfectly suited to smaller room stereo systems as well as high-end and studio multichannel environments.
