PRESS RELEASE: A passive noise-reduction device for Ethernet-connected audio and video systems.
Computer Audio Design (CAD) firmly believes that reducing unwanted high-frequency noise in a hi-fi system audibly improves the system’s sound quality. To that end, the company has pioneered a portfolio of highly effective solutions to the problem, and now adds the CAD Network Silencer, a radical new device designed to reduce noise on Ethernet networks connected to your home audio and video equipment.
The CAD Network Silencer builds on proprietary noise-reduction technology developed over the past decade and previously employed in products including the CAD Ground Controls, CAD USB II-R Cable, CAD Ethernet Control and CAD USB Control.
Unlike conventional network accessories that focus solely on differential Ethernet signals, the CAD Network Silencer is designed to reduce high-frequency noise present on both the Ethernet interface and the associated signal ground of connected AV components.
Installation
The device is intended for use in any unused Ethernet (RJ45) port within a network infrastructure, for example in switches or routers.
Installation requires the supplied CAD Network Silencer Cable, which connects the CAD Network Silencer to an available RJ45 socket. No system shutdown or reboot is required during installation or removal.
Where spare Ethernet ports are available, the CAD Network Silencer may also be fitted directly to network-enabled audio components such as servers, streamers, preamplifiers and amplifiers.
CAD Network Silencer Cable
The supplied cable forms an integral part of the CAD Network Silencer system. It has been specifically engineered to optimise the transfer of high-frequency noise present in the Ethernet circuitry and Signal Ground to the noise attenuation circuitry and components in the CAD Network Silencer.
The cable uses custom silver-plated RJ45 shield to provide a low-impedance ground connection, while its materials and construction are optimised for high-frequency noise transfer to the Network Silencer. CAD does not recommend substituting third-party cables, as performance will almost certainly be compromised. The cable’s compact connector design also allows convenient installation alongside adjacent Ethernet connections on densely populated switches and routers.
Design and construction
The CAD Network Silencer operates in parallel with the Ethernet circuitry and Signal Ground. The device employs proprietary CAD circuitry and components to provide broadband attenuation of unwanted high-frequency noise generated by Ethernet circuitry.
Each CAD Network Silencer and cable assembly is hand-built and individually tested in the UK.
The enclosure is manufactured from non-conductive acrylic and has been designed to provide a compact form factor with effective vibration-damping characteristics.
System compatibility
The CAD Network Silencer can be used alongside other CAD products, including the CAD Ethernet Control, USB Control, Ground Controls, USB Filter and USB II-R Cable. The CAD Network Silencer is also suitable for use with analogue components (such as amplifiers) that incorporate Ethernet connections for control, configuration or servicing.
Users should consult the relevant manufacturer’s documentation to confirm that any RJ45 socket is Ethernet-compatible before installation; not all RJ45 sockets are used for Ethernet and the CAD Network Silencer should only be used in RJ45 sockets that are intended for Ethernet connection.
