Jes Kerr is an audio designer / engineer to watch, believes The Ear’s Jason Kennedy. Most of the people who really appreciate good sound and make good sounding equipment grew up in the heyday of hi-fi in the 50s, 60s and 70s, he writes. “But there are a few exceptions and Jes Kerr is one of them.” Kerr started Kerr Acoustics in his mid-twenties and is not yet 30, yet his distinctive loudspeakers were already gracing the kind of professional studios that produce chart-topping records before he expanded into home audio a couple of years ago.

Stereophile interviews Cameron Jenkins of Stranger High Fidelity: can he bridge the gap between pro audio engineering and home hi-fi?

“Why is there so much separation between the professional audio and audiophile worlds? Is that separation by design, or even necessity?” asks Julie Mullins in US hi-fi magazine Stereophile. Mullins is putting the question to David Denyer and Cameron Jenkins, who are challenging that separation. Jenkins is an award-winning recording engineer and record label owner who has worked with Lana Del Rey, the Verve, John Cale and many others; he recently launched Stranger High Fidelity, a bespoke high-end audio retail service that operates from his UK pro recording studios.

No longer just for pros: Kerr Acoustic loudspeakers now available to home listeners

Kerr Acoustic is already a well-known name in professional audio circles – the company’s loudspeakers were used to mix and master rapper J Hus’s Big Conspiracy, which has just enjoyed a week-long stint at number one in the UK’s official top-40 album charts. Now, founder Jes Kerr plans to bring his high resolution loudspeakers to the home audiophile market, via a new UK distribution agreement with Berkshire-based Sound Fowndations.
