“One of the masters of the old ways turns their attention to some new thinking – and the results are sensational,” writes Ed Selley in his review of British brand Exposure’s XM5 integrated amplifier for the audio website AVForums.
Launched last year, Exposure’s XM series of amplifiers is cleverly designed to pack a raft of high-performance features into a compact half-width design. The XM5 was the first product in the series and it’s fair to say that it housed one or two surprises – not least the inclusion of both a DAC and a phonostage within its astonishingly bijou size.
Always a brand keen to offer ‘real world hi-fi at real world prices’, Exposure fully appreciate that many people simply don’t have the budget or space for a massive bank of hi-fi separates. But at the same time, our music comes in a greater variety of media than ever before, while quality and performance remain as important as ever. And so, Exposure set out to put the ‘integrated’ back into the integrated amp with the XM5.
“This is an amp that ensures you are never a spectator to the music but a constantly engaged participant,” concludes Selley. “It simply delivers a more engaging performance than any amp I have encountered under £1,500.”
