The Hi-Fi Choice Yearbook is a bumper 164-page issue that celebrates the hi-fi high points of the past 12 months. The ultimate audio kit guide, it features a hand-picked selection of products that are “applauded by our team of expert reviewers for a winning combination of outstanding sound quality and value for money”. Raidho, Scansonic and Eclipse are among the applause-worthy loudspeakers, while Audio Analogue & Exposure impress in the amplifier department.
A year ago, Danish audio brand Gamut joined Raidho and Scansonic as part of the Dantax group of companies. Now, the high-performance product ranges of all three brands are benefitting from the resulting influx of collaborative design and engineering expertise.
It’s that time of year again folks… when hi-fi’s greatest hitters from around the globe flock to the world’s largest audio exhibition. Yes music lovers, High End Munich 2018 is almost upon us. So, just before I get packing, here are some of the highlights I’ll be heading for.
Danish Scansonic may be the sister company of the highly covetable Danish brand Raidho, but its impressively affordable ‘HD’ range of loudspeakers is winning over audiophiles and music lovers in its own right. Just added to the range is the new MK-5 stand-mount model.
Danish Dantax A/S and Gamut Audio are delighted to confirm that Gamut is now part of the Dantax group of companies, joining fellow Danish high-end audio brands Raidho and Scansonic.
Gamut’s CEO and chief designer Benno Baun Meldgaard said, “This is excellent news for Gamut. To be an integral part of a wider ‘family’ of companies, all of which are wholeheartedly committed to high-end audio, gives Gamut a strong and stable foundation from which to move forward and build on our success to date.”
Danish Scansonic shares a parent company, Dantax, with the highly covetable loudspeaker brand Raidho and the relationship between the two goes more than skin deep: Scansonic’s flagship HD range is created by Raidho’s design team, promising a raft of ‘Raidho DNA’ but at a considerably more affordable price. The Audio Beat’s Roy Gregory explores how much of that original DNA can be found in the MB-1 standmount model and asks the question, would I recommend it to a friend?

Always coveted the stunning sound of Danish loudspeaker legend Raidho, but lacked the requisite budget? Sister company Scansonic HD shares ‘DNA’ and a designer, Michael Borresen, with the prestigious brand. Nick Tate takes their attractively-priced £5,799 MB-5 for a test drive for Hi-Fi News.
“It’s a hard life being a £6,000 loudspeaker,” says Tate in the introduction to his review. “Competition is tough, both from more budget brands doing their cost-no-object flagships, and high-end marques making entry-level designs. In short, six grand speakers risk being run over from both sides of the road…” So how will the MB-5 hold up?
